Morocco is one of those places that gets under your skin fast, is a popular destination for digital nomads thanks to a year-round warm climate, affordable rents, and surf beaches.

Marrakech sits just two hours from most of Southern Europe, with no visa required for EU, US, and UK citizens for stays up to 90 days. The cost of living is low and the climate is warm year-round. Marrakech specifically has a growing infrastructure of coworking spaces, reliable WiFi cafés, and a small but welcoming nomad community that gives it real staying power as a remote work destination, not just a stopover.

Whether you're figuring out where to stay in Marrakech, looking for a coworking space, or planning what to do on your off days, this guide covers everything remote workers need to know.

Where to Stay in Marrakech, Morocco

  • ‍Djemaa el Fna, Mouassine and the Medina: Well known as the heart of Marrakech, this is a lively area in the centre of the city. Find souqs, food stalls and snake charmers all within walking distance. This is also where you can find Outsite Marrakesh.
  • Gueliz: Gueliz is a quieter alternative to the Medina, home to Jardin Majorelle. There's a heavier European influence here with open plazas and more contemporary shops.
  • ‍Kasbah and Mellah: This is one of the cities first neighborhoods, first inhabited in 1062, now home to many of the main attractions including Bahia Palace and Saadian Tombs.

Digital Nomad Communities in Marrakech

There are a handful of coworking spaces in Marrakech, which have created the infrastructure for a small digital nomad community. All Members staying in Outsite Marrakech have access to the local WhatsApp group to meet other remote workers staying in the city.

Coworking Spaces in Marrakech

• Fraktal: Located in Gueliz, Fraktal is the most established coworking space in the city. It's popular with both locals and expats, with a mix of hot desks and private offices, fast WiFi, meeting rooms, and a communal kitchen. Good energy, reliable air conditioned (very important from May onwards).
• Coworking L'BLASSA:‍ A more boutique option in Gueliz with a design-forward aesthetic. Smaller cool place, which means fewer distractions and a more focused crowd. They offer day passes and monthly memberships. Good coffee on-site.
• Cowork in Marrakech: A practical, no-frills space that works well for heads-down days. Located close to the Medina edge, it's a useful option if you're based in that area and don't want a long taxi ride to Gueliz.

Coliving Spaces in Marrakech

‍Outsite Marrakesh is a 20 room coliving space in Massouine, Marrakech, right in the heart of the Medina. There's there's a rooftop terrace for sunset drinks, a hammam, a pool, and a communal workspace with high-speed WiFi and AC in all rooms.

Outsite members get access to a local WhatsApp group, if you want the Marrakech experience without the logistical chaos of finding a riad and figuring it all out alone, this is the move.

Best Cafes with WiFi in Marrakech

Café Des Épices Marrakech Medina
This is a small and trendy coffee bar tucked into Derb Rahba Lakdima. They have fast Wifi, but some reviews report it doesn't always work - this space serves breakfast and pastries too.

Cactus Café Marrakech‍
The atmosphere is relaxed, the WiFi is strong, and they serve traditional coffee, breakfasts, and pastries. There are plenty of seats here.

Cafe LOBO
This is a more modern establishment with fast Wifi, chairs, coffee and breakfast options. More of a contemporary European feel than a traditional Moroccan café. A solid choice for a half-day work session.

Bacha Coffee
Bacha Coffee is set inside the stunning Dar el Bacha palace in the Medina. It's a memorable spot for a morning coffee.

Day Trips & Things to Do in Marrakech

Jardin Majorelle and YSL Museum‍
A manicured botanical garden, just a 10 minute taxi from the centre of Marrakech. This space also holds the YSL Museum.
‍
ANIMA Gardens
Botanical gardens 1 hour south of Marrakesh, hosting works from Rodin and Warhol.
‍

Yoga Studios & Gyms in Marrakech

Dar Anis Yoga Studio

Getting Around Marrakech

Marrakech is hot, and the roads surrounding the Medina are hard to navigate on foot. You can walk around the neighborhoods, but it's standard practice to get taxis for longer distances.

For longer distances, petits taxis (small red cabs) are the standard and cheapest option. Always agree on a price before getting in, or insist the meter is used, typical fares within the city are 20–40 MAD (€2–4).

Is there Uber in Marrakech?
No, Uber does not currently operate in Marrakesh or anywhere else in Morocco.
The closest alternative is Careem, which does work in Marrakech and lets you book and pay in-app, avoiding any negotiation. Bolt has also been expanding in Moroccan cities — worth checking availability when you arrive.

Cost of Living in Marrakech?

Marrakech is one of the more affordable cities in the Mediterranean for remote workers. Here's a rough monthly breakdown for a comfortable lifestyle:

Estimated Cost
Coliving / furnished room €1,000–1,500/month
Coworking day pass €14–18/day
Coffee €1–2
Lunch at a local restaurant €4–8
Dinner (mid-range) €12–20
Taxi across the city €1.50–3
SIM card + 30GB data ~€10/month

Overall, a comfortable monthly budget — including accommodation, food, transport, and coworking — typically falls between €1,700 and €2,300, depending on your lifestyle.

Do You Need a Visa to Enter Morocco?

Most citizens from European countries will not need a visa to enter Morocco for up to 90 days, as Morocco is a Non-Schengen area. US and UK citizens do not need a visa to enter Morocco for 90 days, either.
